Queen Bee Creations
Canada
Приєднався 18 січ 2020
Located in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, I am the owner and artist at Queen Bee Creations. I love taking furniture and even decor items that are a little tired and worn, upcycling and refreshing them to breathe new life into them. Ultimately... to help them be loved once again! Crafting has long been a part of my life - both as a creative outlet and as a means of adding some personal touches to my home.
I hope you find some inspiration within the channel to try something new, to play and create!

How to Use Paint Inlays
I have numerous customers that are intimidated by the new Paint Inlays from IOD. These are sheets of paper with actual artist grade paint on them, in varied patterns, that you can embed into a painted surface.
In this video I show you the basic steps to follow to apply these inlays to your painted surfaces, whether a bread box, jug, bowl, candle or piece of furniture... any painted surface would work.
As it turned out we also did a bit of an experiment on this one since I disappeared mid-project for vacation!
You can purchase the paint and inlays from us at www.QueenBeeCreationsHome.com We ship throughout Canada and the U.S.

What is a Glue Book?
Переглядів 27011 годин тому
What a great way to 'rescue' a used notebook, planner or even old novel from waste! Glue in your memories and mementoes, create 'themed' glue books for craft projects, decorating inspiration, memories, recipes, travel mementoes... it's limitless! What is great about these is that you only need a glue stick, an old book and old paper or pages. These don't have to be fancy, though you can dress t...
New Use for a Paper Towel Holder

If you're looking to upcycle successfully then you need to train yourself to recognise items that could be repurposed. I like to sometimes play a 'game' with myself... choosing something off of the thrift store shelf and not moving on until I come up with three possible ideas of how it could be used... other than its original purpose. This doesn't necessarily mean I buy that item... none of the...
My Summer Vacation Dump Finds

For those that expressed an interest in being taken along on my Dump search this summer, this video is for you! We headed out to the Dump at least once each day of our week long vacation and even tried another Dump to see if we found better or different items there. Honestly... it's always hit and miss. Our best finds came when we happened to be there just as someone was dropping off some new i...

I love taking old, tired and worn pieces and bring new life to them with a little paint and perhaps a few other add ons. None of these transformations is difficult, which means you too can easily update your tired home decor pieces and make them work in your space once again! It is far more inexpensive to upcycle your pieces than it is to replace them with newly purchased items. Consider also t...
Making Earrings from Leaves

I sometimes wonder about the way my brain works, what triggers some of the ideas that I have... but once I have an idea the only way I have of letting it go is to give it a try. Some work, some don't but it's always a fun experiment to find out! These lightweight little earrings were one of those random thoughts I had... prefaced with the 'what if' phrase that sometimes gets me in trouble! Thes...
How to Practice Watercolour Painting
Переглядів 24614 днів тому
This is a great technique to use in order to practice different watercolour techniques. You can either download a sketch or copy one of your own onto watercolour paper so that you can use the same design to practice different methods, colours and techniques. Using the same patterned base alllows you to better compare the impact of those technique and colour choices. Use old colouring pages, dow...
Home Decor from a Shovel

I love using unconventional items in conventional ways. It makes the final decor piece just that little bit more interesting... and certainly unique. I know there will be some of you out there that really wanted me to add a bow... and I can visually see where it would go... but I really like it without... keeping it just that touch simpler and allowing more of that rustic handle to show through...
Making Moulded Buttons
Переглядів 18914 днів тому
Your moulds are far more versatile than you may realize. This quick little video is just one more idea on ways to extend the use of the moulds you've already invested in. Don't think you need to use these only for clothing... consider the number of craft projects where you need a little decorative item to dangle from or embellish a project item. Now you can beautiful, customized buttons to use!...

Mix a little 'dump' find with a thrift find... and you get a classically beautiful decor piece for under $5. Who can beat that? I keep rolls of wrapping paper on hand specifically for projects (and not gift giving) so keep it in mind when you come across a particularly lovely paper and set it aside for a future need!! Felting a Soap Bar
Переглядів 21821 день тому
This was a lot of fun and likely the 'cleanest' craft I've ever done! It doesn't take much wool, not very much time... and smells great! These felted bars make great little stocking stuffers, teachers gifts or would be great sold at a Xmas market or bazaar!! Just remember to include a label letting the buyer know what variety/fragrance of soap is inside!! You can pick up variety packs of Roving...
Updating a Crafted Tray
Переглядів 16221 день тому
I had recently fixed up a $2 thrifted tray, experimenting with a resin base over a picture I had removed from a thrifted picture frame. I found that the resin highlighted a couple of small scratches on the surface of the picture, which allowed the resin to bleed down into the paper creating some 'blotches'. Fine if I wanted to keep the project for personal use... I could live with them. But a w...

Bread box is gorgeous!
thanks Deb!
🌞🌞🌞
Ellen... I saw you had commented twice but had to take a closer look to realize it was for two different projects! thanks for scrolling back!!
Gorgeous ❤
A cute little update!
🌞🌞🌞
Thanks Ellen!!
That bread box turned out really pretty. TFS 😊
thank you Sandi!!
Good Morning! It was great to get up and find a video from you! Even getting to see inlays! I've been meaning to try these, but have been hesitant. Seeing how easy it was. I'm sure I'll try it now! ❤❤❤
Jill, I don't think you're alone in being hesitant to use them... a lot of my customers are too, but they really are this easy! I think misting them first (before applying them) gives a better adhesion and crisper image so definitely include that step and don't forget to save them after removal... you can use them an additional 2-3 times - getting a slightly more faded look each time - great as backgrounds for other crafting projects!!
@@QueenBeeCreations Thank you for the advice!
Morning Cindy! Hope you had a wonderful vacation! Love how the breadbox turned out. I’m one of those that are afraid to use the inlays. I see now that they are pretty forgiving to use. Maybe I’ll give it go! Thank you for sharing!❤
You're not alone Patti! I think that most of my customers are hesitant! There are a couple of steps but... they are really quite straight forward. Treat them like paint when applied... you can sand, distress and re-engage the paint too so it you are trying to match up the patterns from one sheet to the next and don't quite make it you can use a small wet paint brush to re-engage the paint and fill the gap. This also allows you to 'fix' areas if needed.
I started the year learning to junk journal but found it pretty labor intensive. So I've put that aside as I started gluebooking. And now I am really loving that and have 4 different glue books going. Hope you will show us more!!
Thanks for sharing that!! I have to say I love the 'practical' nature of the glue book... the functional purpose behind it. I'm all about taking something others would deem as junk, or garbage, and turning it into something with a new life and purpose and that's what the glue book does for me!
Yes they are. I learned to do junk journals but with actual junk and recycled materials and it is soo much fun!
Jasmine... I think that was the intention of the junk journals to start... and the version I love best! Now there are packages and layouts to purchase which seems less like 'junk' to me!!
Hi Cindy, how fabulous! Definitely going to do this one! Thanks for the inspiration!💫
Wendy... it's one of those that you can't understand why you didn't think of this sooner!!
Hi Cindy! 😮 I have always been intentional with crafting, so I am another crafter who while appreciated the beauty of junk journals, would never do them. However this was a 😮 moment. I have always kept books like your date book for various things over the years, sayings and quotes, etc. So the idea of re-using an older book that no applies to a glue book, for me is intentional and beautiful. Thankyou for sharing. I will be sharing this video ❤
Terri... I have given junk journals a try... and really love and appreciate the work that some people put into them but... I have a hard time justifying the time spent with the lack of true purpose and use. It's a 'me' thing but... I was so excited to hear about Glue Books... they use an 'old' book as a base and don't require an investment of $$$ into buying and gathering all kinds of specialized layouts and ephemera to complete. Sure... you can add in some if you've got 'em or want to, but the idea of these if focused more on their 'usability' and 'purpose'. It's more content driven. I'm going to be using this idea many times in my future and, for someone like my granddaughter, I think they make great (and easy) little memory books for kids. How great for her to look back on what she, as an eight year old, found important to glue into hers... the songs she liked then, the quotes, the pictures of toys or games or activities...
@@QueenBeeCreations my thoughts exactly!! Thankyou for doing all the leg work including a great idea to start with.
I don't understand junk journals, but I do love this idea!
Junk Journals tend to be more about the creation process... almost creating a little vignette with each page... but these... soooo usable! A way to collect your ideas, thoughts, inspiration without a lot of the fuss. The pages can be decorated... or not... totally up to you since it's more as a repository of information for you! I'm going to finish filling this one but I am thinking I might want to have multiples at some point... different crafts for different seasons....!!!
Really cute. You could actually add more on the back side as well.
Yes, absolutely!
resourceful and creative!😊
Thank you! 😊
Great to have you back, Cindy! You always make me smile!
thanks Wendy... good to be back!! I was getting a little antsy while away...!!!
Cute! You could put twine on both sides, to balance the weight. You are always so artistic and clever!
Absolutely!! To balance the weight and give more storage!!!
Very clever and very cute!
Thank you! 😊
Such a great idea!
Thanks Jewel!!!
This is awesome, will come in handy for several items.
Definitely! I use twine and jute a lot but you could swap them out for anything on a spool!
Super cute! ❤
Thank you Patti... pretty practical for a craft area
Great idea!
Thanks Carrie, it's come in useful around here already!
Thanks for these great tips! I, too, love the IOD molds, but can’t afford them all. Your creativity helps us think outside the box. Blessings!
Thank you for this! There are always options and alternatives available… I like to show them to you so you can keep on crafting!
How fun, Cindy! Love your treasures…a different kind of foraging at the lake! Hope your break was restorative and thanks for sharing your process.
Thanks Wendy! A little break from the sun to visit the dump but exciting to find a new treasure!
My gosh Cindy those are great finds! We should have something like that dump here in Burlington!! And btw the cottage is beautiful and looks so relaxing! 😊
Really Toni... every dump should have a Re-Use shed... it could save a lot of items from going into the landfill unnecessarily!
@@QueenBeeCreations agreed!
WOW! You got way better stuff from the dump than I find at my thrift.😮
That's the same for me too, it's why I get excited when I head up here for the week!!
Wow Cindy did you every score this vacation they look like good stuff out of some fancy cottages, people don’t even bother themselves having a yard sale anymore👍
Cathy... there were some truly great finds... nothing too much on the sunday after I had finished this video but it's always a 'timing' thing... the best is to be there right when someone is unloading!!
I just found Queen Bee Creation and really enjoyed your channel. I for sure will be back!
Glad you found us!! Lots of back videos for you to pick and choose from and three new videos a week... lots in store for you!!!
I agree that the bow is too much. But, I do love the bow and am sure it will be perfect in another project. The color combo of ribbons works well, too. And I LOVE the color of the cutting board .. your little bee planter is so, so darling! 😍
I did switch out the first bow but... still not sold on the second one!! Sheesh!
I like the way you explained things. Like the making of the bow. And thank you for not making us watch the painting. My new favorite.
Hi Debra - thanks for watching! I try not to show you the 'stuff' that I think is absolutely straight forward - I don't think you need to watch me spray or hand paint something a single colour... and definitely not watch me paint the whole thing! I'm assuming you're here for some tips and ideas = and how-to's when they matter... Glad it works for you!!
Lovely frame.
Thank you Debi - an easy project - really turns out nice!
The jug is my favorite.
I like it too!!
Nevermind.😁 The planter. That’s my favorite-the queen bee planter. Gorgeous. Now I’m going to have to order me a bee mold so I can make it myself, because I’ll never find a planter like yours out in the wild.❤
IOD does have a mould with a queen Bee on it you can check out...
I love the way you filmed this video! Sometimes I get impatient watching someone video every stroke of paint, every detail, etc. You showed us some but not every little thing, and I thought it was perfect! Love your videos and I loved every project you did. I can’t even pick a favorite.❤
Thank you for this. I think your time is valuable and try to put into the videos the value filled moments.. not segments that are self explanatory to only boost watch time!
No to the bow! Either one. Needs something simpler and narrower or nothing at all. TFS
I know..... the second one was better but... still not 'it'!
I love everything except the bow on the cutting board. A simpler burlap or ripped muslin bow would look better.
Michele... totally agree... I changed it out!!
Is this washable.
No soaking... wipe with a damp towel is okay. (definitely no dishwasher!)
I love how the earrings turn out ❤
Thanks Brenda... something a little different!
This is awesome!! I am definitely going to do this with old cowboy boots we have that we no longer wear to ride our horses. Thank you for no background music too!
I loved how these ultimately turned out (though a messy process along the way!!) Great way to recycle the old boots!
@@QueenBeeCreations They are awesome! I can’t wait to try it.
Love it! So many ideas!
Thanks Sue... I'm kinda digging the Fruit Loops idea now myself!!!
I love that !!! Soo beautiful.
Thank you... a nice, quick little makeover!
Thanks for all your videos and tips. I have a question for you. I have chairs similar to that but my cat got some poke holes from his claws in there. It's not shredded. It's just holes. Do you have any ideas on how to repair that before I paint it? Without having to of course reupholster the whole dang thing?
I believe that there is such a thing as a leather-filler... that is paintable. It's for filling small holes like you're describing. Try a search on Amazon and see what comes up... Leather-filler is the phrase that comes to mind... as opposed to leather patches, which you don't want.
Hi Cindy! Great idea. I cannot sketch and can get hung on the little things.....and then walk away. Thankyou for this idea...I will definately be doing this and sharing the video....😊
Terri... this makes me so happy!! I was thinking that it was funny the barrier to not painting with watercolour was a perceived inability to draw. Or... that after spending forever getting a sketch just right... being reluctant to practice with the paints lest you 'ruin' the sketch!! This takes care of both those fears! If it's your sketch... photocopy it and print it out multiple times... no worries about 'ruining' it!! If you can't sketch (or that's a separate skill to practice!) then grab a sketch from someone else to practice and play with!!
The big head on a tree outside
Definitely... the 'Father Nature' would look great mounted on a tree!!!
Being so new to wc and sketching is hard for my hands, too painful to paint after trying to sketch a scene ugh, this is an awesome idea! I can hardly wait to try a bunch! Thanks so much for this.
Kathy... I'm so happy that this idea works for you! We always need to find work arounds that allow us to keep creating and doing what we love!
🌞🌞🌞
Thanks Ellen!!
Great idea to use as a learning tool. TYFS.
That's what I think too... no stress in messing up your own drawing and you can 're-do' the same image over and over to perfect a technique or to try new and different and compare!
Love This Cindy. TYFS (Pauline S)
Thank you Pauline!!!
I appreciate your sharing your stream-of-consciousness thinking as you're designing the project you intend to create. Knowing your process is helpful. Thanks for the video. So pretty! ❤
Thank you for that Deb... I know I have some that only want me to share a 'perfect' and 'practiced' video from start to end but... I am doing these projects in real time with you! Plans change along the way from what you envision... perhaps because my execution isn't up to plan. Maybe the vision was off. Maybe the stars weren't aligned... but it's real. I'm completing these things for the shop or simply because I want to give them a 'go'... but I think that's what my viewers are doing too! It's okay to mess up, it's okay to change plans and pivot mid way. Not showing that I think creates expectations that, when not realized, lead people to quit something mid way or, even worse, never start. I want people to wade in, get messy and enjoy the experience of the creative process. Hopefully that's what they want too.
@@QueenBeeCreations 💕 Exactly! That's what I hope you will keep doing. Happy Friday ~ 🌿
Good morning Cindy! Love your project this morning! Not only did it come out lovely, it helped me focus on something else instead of my upcoming surgery later on this morning! I have skin cancer on my nose that has to be removed. Hope you have a great day and wonderful weekend!❤️
Patti... sending big hugs your way! Hope everything goes as it should for you today. In my world it means you deserve ice cream today - in yours you deserve whatever treat makes your heart happy!!
